Going Trayless

Goodbye Trays…Hello Plates

Upper classman have probably noticed that this year there are no food trays in the University Dining Hall (UDH). This is because the UDH has gone ‘trayless’ in an effort to eliminate food waste and energy and water consumption. Studies show that on the past, students have been wasting food by everything that looks good onto their tray, but they only end up consuming 50% the food. By going trayless, we are reducing the percentage of food waste along with saving thousands of gallons of water by not washing the trays.

Fresno State is not the only University taking action! Fresno State and other Universities across the nation are not only eliminating trays, but switching from plastic to bio-degradable items such as cups, bowls, utensils, and napkins.

UC Bottle Alert!!

All residents can now take there green UC bottle into the University Dining Hall (UDH) with them to fill there bottle up during there meal time. Also you can take your UC bottle to any other dining services establishments here on campus for $.50 cent refills.

Pay Bills Online
Go Green with Online Bills

Are you getting tired of receiving stacks of bills in your mailbox? Well, the solution is very simple. Help contribute to our nation’s ongoing green campaign by receiving all your monthly statements and bills online. According to triplepundit.com, if U.S. households stop receiving paper bills and pay all bills online, paper savings would be equal to 16.5 million trees! You’ll also help to save 56,000 garbage trucks of solid waste, air pollution and particulates. Don’t wait any longer- check and see if online bill statements are available through your:

  • Bank

  • Etc.

If you can buy a pair of shoes online or shop around on eBay, then you can pay bills online.

WHAT A BRIGHT IDEA!
Make the switch to energy efficient light bulbs

Beginning in mid-September, University Courtyard residents will have the opportunity to swap out any incandescent light bulbs they have in their room for new, energy saving, compact fluorescent light bulbs.  And the best part about it, thanks to our partnership with PG&E, these new bulbs are FREE for residents!  Here’s how you can obtain the new, energy efficient bulbs for FREE:

  1. Locate any incandescent bulbs you are currently using in your room at University Courtyard
  2. Take them to your hall desk located on the first floor of your building, or to the Atrium if you live in the Suites, between the hours of 7pm-11pm
  3. The staff member working the desk will take your old bulbs from you and provide you with new, energy saving bulbs

This program will start up in the middle of September, so start collecting your old light bulbs now in preparation for the start of this swapping period.  Signs will be posted throughout the residence halls and at all hall desks alerting residents of the start of this program.

A special thanks to PG&E for donating the energy efficient light bulbs and making this program possible!
